Pain Game……

Pakistan’s cricketing fortunes are at a low ebb following a 2-1 Test series defeat in South Africa and a dismal start to the One Day series which, along with recurring injury problems, threatens to drain confidence ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

The Pakistan Cricket Board seem to be in a state of chaos at present, quick to accept credit for anything that happens to go right (which isn’t very often) but unwilling to take the blame on key issues that have affected performances and results.

It still remains a mystery why Shoaib Akhtar was flown out to South Africa to join the team when he hadn’t been selected in the first place. He suffered an injury and was immediately flown back to Pakistan after playing roughly two sessions of competitive cricket.

To compound Pakistan’s injury misery – and some strange selection decisions by the PCB – Shabbir Ahmed was declared unfit for the third Test (which lasted only three days} and returned home after less than a week on tour. He picked up a groin strain after bowling only four overs in Friday’s opening Twenty20 match, his first game since re-modelling his bowling action. The big question is: Should he have ever been risked in the first place?
