PCB Disciplines Seven Players

In a very bold move by the PCB, Younis Khan and Mohd Yousuf have been suspended from the team while Rana Naveed and Shoaib Malik given a one year ban each from cricket. Shahid Afridi and the Akmal brothers were fined Rs2-3 million for various misdemeanors and put on six-month probation. That is a whopping verdict against SEVEN top players of the present Pakistan cricket team.

“Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan, keeping in view their infighting which resulted in bringing down the whole team, their attitude has a trickledown effect which is a bad influence for the whole team should not be part of national team in any format,” Typically there was confusion and the board later appeared to climb down by clarifying that this was not the end of their careers. In a statement released at least six hours after the original release, the board said, “that the recommendation of the Committee is not a life ban on these cricketers. There is no specified term in the recommendation for these two players. As and when the PCB deems appropriate, these players will be considered for selection for the national team.”

Mohammad Asif, will not be able to enter the UAE for this month’s Twenty20 series against England as the UAE authorities refused to revoke the traveling restrictions into Dubai. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had made a fresh appeal to Dubai authorities requesting them to revoke the ban but UAE has refuse to comply. It should be recalled that Mohd Asif was arrested in Dubai in June 2008 after he was caught in possession of small quantity of opium but with some arm wrestling by the Pakistani Govt it was dismissed.

PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, Wasim Bari, is quoted to have said “We made a request with the UAE authorities but they turned it down as it’s not possible under their laws,”

I’m shocked that Pakistani government had the galls to apply for a pardon after all what he did to disgrace the country in 2008. I say ban him for life, including Shahid Afridi

A 37-year-old man had also been charged with trespass, in which Khalid Latif was grabbed from behind and brought to the ground on the pitch at WACA

Ponting rightly said “If I was the fielding captain tonight, I would have definitely brought all the players in and had a chat to them about how they felt about it, That wasn’t the first spectator that had been out on the ground tonight either. That’s what I would have done if I’d been the captain out there.

I believe Afridi was too preoccupied with other pressing issues that walking out would have been looked up unkindly by the english speaking audience after all the Aussies can do it in Pakistan but desi’s don’t have the balls to pull off a stunt like that in a jam packed english speaking stadium, unless its our famous Inzaman who chose to walk out of the oval

The PCB is seeking to make a fresh appeal to Dubai authorities requesting them to revoke the traveling restrictionson fast bowler Mohammad Asif who was banned from entering the UAE after being stopped with a small quantity of opium at Dubai airport in June 2008.

He spent 19 days in detention in the UAE and was barred from re-entering Dubai, though no criminal charges were pressed as the government of Pakistan intervened and help wriggle him out of jail. Last year the PCB had tried to negotiate Asif’s reentry into Dubai for the series with New Zealand but ran into a dead end, this year they will apparently try again.

Saldy my opinion back then was to leave this disgraceful cricket rotting in jail. He had gone to represent Pakistan and disgraced the nation in a foreign land, there should be no room for cheat and morons who think they can go skipping around tarnishing the name of Pakistan. Ban him (and Afridi) for life, from ever representing Pakistan ever again

As if the morale of the Pakistani nation could not be taken to another embarrassing lowest point on earth. Shahid Afridi was caught on TV actually biting the cricket ball, aka tampering to help his bowlers win matches. The 3rd umpire, Ranjan Madugalle caught the irregularity and instructed his on field umpires to confiscate the ball.

After the match, Afridi was called into a hearing with the match referee Ranjan Madugalle immediately after the match. Afridi pleaded guilty to the charge admitting to have tampered the ball but added that the practice was common among all teams.

“I shouldn’t have done it. It just happened. I was trying to help my bowlers and win a match, one match, There is no team in the world that doesn’t tamper with the ball. My methods were wrong. I am embarrassed, I shouldn’t have done it. I just wanted to win us a game but this was the wrong way to do it.”

Britain Cricket Twenty20 World Cup

Little words can express the happiness with which I celebrate the fact that Pakistan are the World Champions of the Twenty20 world cup. To have defeated Sri Lanka with a comfortable margin of eight wickets and many balls to spare. Pakistan erupted with a roar of celebrations heard not only in Pakistan but practically every corner of the world where Pakistanis were watching this match.

This victory in my opinion was not only a sporting victory but a godsend for a nation which has been bogged down for months of uncertainty and choas, if anything, the 11 players won it to revive the ailing heartbeat of an entire Pakistani nation, for which we shall be forever grateful.

PakCricket as the 8th trending topic on twitterThe #PakCricket twitter rally started late Saturday night an attempt to rally behind the Pakistan Cricket Team when it was due to face the Sri Lankan Cricket team on Sunday in the Twenty20 cricket World Cup at Lords in London.

Simply having the team featuring in the Twenty20 Final was a godsend morale boost for a nation desperately on the look out for good news as it has been a long time have they been able to look beyond the haze of bomb blasts and terroristic attacks.

The digital sphere decided to rally behind a twitter keyword “#PakCricket” aiming to build momentum of patriotism. We finally achieved our goal at 4:30pm Pakistan time when the #PakCricket appeared on the sidebar of the home page of Twitter.com. Since the first time it was spotted it has already climbed to #8 position. Appearing on Twitter trending topic means that one of the most ten talked about topics amongst the millions of conversations on twitter.com is about Pakistan Cricket.

pk womens cricket teamPakistan Women Cricket team has just trumped a 57-run win over Sri Lanka at the Women’s World Cup in Sydney.

Pakistan totalled 161-7 from their 50 overs and then bowled out Sri Lanka for just 104, with medium-pacer Qanita Jalil taking 3-33 from eight overs.

Sri Lanka never recovered from losing their first three wickets with only 28 on the board and although captain Shashikala Siriwardene made 58 from 11 balls, she lacked the support necessary to steer them towards their target. She was eventually run out by Javeria Khan and the game ended when Sana Mir, who had contributed an unbeaten 22 earlier in the game, had Sripali Weerakkody caught to finish with figures of 2-18.

lahore-sri-lanka-attack-249x160This letter is our expression of deep sorrow and grief at the savage attacks on the Sri Lankan cricket team while they were touring our country. As Pakistani citizens, we are shocked, angered, and greatly embarrassed at being the source of such anxiety to the people of Sri Lanka. There never can be a justification for such horrendous acts of violence, and the Pakistani nation strongly condemns this evil act.

The dastardly attacks were carried out by miscreants who do not share the common values that the peaceful citizens of both Sri Lanka and Pakistan cherish and uphold. Pakistan has been the victim of many terrorist attacks in the last few years, and it is evident that this cowardly act was another attempt to cause increased turmoil and chaos in a country that is already suffering through a period of extreme violence and anarchy.
