Oz Government Rubbish Rumours

Australia’s foreign minister has dismissed suggestions that his nation’s tour of Pakistan was scrapped because of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The world champions announced on Tuesday that they would postpone their tour of the troubled country, which has witnessed a spate of suicide bombings since the general election.

Geoff Lawson, in his Indian series tour report, has advised against the selection of Shoaib Akhtar for Tests, so that the fast bowler can prolong his international career.

“I have made that suggestion [that Shoaib should not be considered for Tests], but I have spoken to Shoaib about it and the idea is it would prolong his career,” Lawson said yesterday. “Maybe he would be better just playing ODIs because of his reliability factor for Test match cricket.

Shoaib has only played four Tests since 2007, and took nine wickets at 33.11 in the three-Test series against India, he was plagued by injuries, missing out of the most part of the third Test in Bangalore.

I on the other hand feel that he is not even worth one-day matches and might have better luck pursuing an acting career in Bollywood or even trying to amuse the audience at the IPL where he was fetched for a whopping $425,000 as maybe the hard cash might keep him chugging into to bowl for alloted overs

The tussle between ICL and ICC continues to no end – yesterday the players association entered into the fray by issuing a statement which generally supports the players rights to play in the Indian Cricket League. I can only suspect this will aggravate things even more considering the extremist attitude adopted by the national boards

Cricinfo – Tim May, the chief executive of FICA, the international players’ association, has expressed his concern over attempts by national boards to impose bans on players who have signed for the unauthorised Indian Cricket League.

Making clear that FICA “neither supports nor rejects the ICL”, May said that his organisation’s primary aim “is to ensure that players rights are upheld and that governing bodies do not unreasonably restrain players from plying their trade”.

Pakistan board is set to block any of its players who have signed contracts with the unsanctioned Indian Cricket League from playing domestic cricket overseas.

As things stand, any player who wants to play abroad needs a No Objection Certificate [NOC] from their home board. But a PCB said that Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, who recently signed for Yorkshire, would not be getting an NOC. “This is in line with our policy on the ICL, All players who do sign up with it will not represent Pakistan or domestic sides in Pakistan and anyway, Rana was not a contracted player of the board.”

The most high-profile case is that of Mushtaq Ahmed, who has been instrumental in Sussex’s success in the last five seasons and who is due to return to Hove next month. Although he was granted an NOC, he has since signed with the ICL. “We are considering withdrawing his NOC, because when we provided it to him last, it was a month and a half before he signed up with the ICL,” the PCB spokesman said.

rana203getty.jpgRana Naved-ul-Hasan has been told to decide whether his future lies with Yorkshire or the Indian Cricket League (ICL). The seamer is among a group of overseas players signed up to the unsanctioned league, but Naved also faces an England-wide ban because of his ICL contract.

“If Rana takes part in the ICL, he will forfeit his Yorkshire contract,” said Tykes chief executive Stewart Regan “It means we will be forced to look elsewhere for an overseas player.” But Rana Naved has asked the Yorkshire management to give him a few days to decide and weigh his options.
