The Pakistan Cricket Board has banned players who participated in the unofficial Indian Cricket League (ICL) from playing in the ongoing domestic season. Six Pakistan players – Inzamam-ul-Haq, Azhar Mahmood, Abdul Razzaq, Shabbir Ahmed, Imran Farhat and Taufiq Umar – appeared in the inaugural tournament of the ICL earlier this month.

Nasim Ashraf, PCB chairman, told the players on Monday that they cannot represent Pakistan or play domestic cricket at home. “When those players signed up to play in the ICL and went to India to take part in that tournament they were fully aware of the consequences, It is a policy decision that players who play in unauthorized leagues cannot be allowed to play in any domestic competition organized by the PCB,” Shafiq Ahmed, the PCB domestic cricket general manager, said. “We cannot allow violation of our rules and regulations by anyone. We don’t think it is a harsh decision.”

Reacting to the ban, Farhat told Reuters, “Cricket is our bread and butter. This is a violation of our fundamental rights.” He said the players would take legal action and try to obtain a stay on the ban.

The Killing Blow

As i write this, the Pak Vs India ODI series is now over, India having won it by a 3-2 margin. It was not a one sided affair by far, with most of the matches going down to the wire, as they often do when both these teams play.

Team Pakistan under their new captain Shoaib Malik and Coach Lawson have been performing at quite a stable rate since the start of the 20/20 world cup but along with the old problems of bad fielding and irresponsible batting, we seem to have developed an entire new category of headaches. That is we are failing at an alarming rate as of late to finish things off!!

I do not think it has got to do anything with the Captain or the Coach changing though. I think some of our newly drafted players although well on in age and skill lack the necessary finesse to deal the crucial killing blow to the opposition.

For PCB Its Time For Reflection

Pakistan’s ignominious defeats on Indian soil amidst a hostile crowd and a highly talented adversary has also got some silver linings. Like they say that every defeat and every stumble is an opportunity, so it’s high time that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shouldn’t get panicked and starts taking desperate actions.

Those desperate actions are normally to throw some players out of the team, and then call back those players who were thrown out disdainfully just couple of months back. So the vicious cycle remains continue. PCB must overhaul the existing team, but there is no point in brining back the previously thrown out blow jobs.

PCB should, for a time, forget the current idiots in the team. It should just shut down his eyes from that facet. What it should do is to concentrate and focus all of its clout, money, resources, manpower, and everything else on finding the talent within the country.
