Inzi Hangs his Test Cap

Inzamam-ul-HaqInzamam has finally decided to call it quits after playing this upcoming test match between Pakistan and South Africa at Lahore. He would have played 120 Test matches since his debut in 1992 scored over 8800 runs highest being the glorious 329 vs New Zealand in 2002.

“I spoke to the board and selectors and the first Test was originally offered to me but I wasn’t mentally ready to come back to Test cricket then. It was my idea to play in Lahore and then say ‘Thank you very much’. I am really grateful to the board for their gesture as nobody else has been able to leave the game like this. Not Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Saeed Anwar or Javed Miandad, it has not been the tradition. No previous board chairman has shown the kind of respect that Nasim Ashraf is showing to me by allowing me to leave the game in this way.” – BigStarCricket.com

Without doubt Inzamam will go down in the history books as a great player probably fondly remembered from his brilliant knocks during the 1992 World Cup team. The only thing that worries me is the fact that this second test is a very critical match for Pakistan, and by the statement he has made on BigStarCricket it seems that Nasim Ashraf is ready to sacrifice a position to offer a healing gesture to Inzamam, differently from the attitude metted out to him when he was dispatched out of One-day cricket. Though I am all for the move and this move by PCB, but it does worry me ever so lightly that Pakistan may need to carry an unfit player simply when he emotionally wishes to retire from Lahore.

All said — Heres’ to Inzi, one of the greatest players to have ever played for Pakistan
