Inzi the Legend, says Goodbye

Inzamam is without doubt one of the best batsmen ever to represent Pakistan in the international arena, he started his one day career back in 1991 when Pakistan played West Indies at Lahore in 1991 and his test career from Birmingham against the English in 1992. Its been well over 16 years of back to back cricket for this humble giant which naturally had their own highs and lows.
The highlight of his career even by his own admission was the 1992 world cup victory where people fondly remember the 60 runs he made vs New Zealand, during the 1992 World Cup semi-final which Pakistan won by four wickets. Who can forget the majestic 329 he made yet again vs New Zealand at Lahore, 2002. or his 122 vs India, Karachi, 2004, though India won by five runs Inzamam out-batted the world’s best batting line-up facing the mammoth total of 350.

With the recent series loss to South Africa (1-0) Pakistan have dropped to seventh place in the ICC Test Championship table. Pakistan, who were earlier in sixth place with 99 points, lost three points with the recent series loss and are now only ahead of West Indies (72) and Bangladesh (4), while Zimbabwe has a rating of 12 but has since they have not played any test match within the new rating period, are not included on the actual rankings and should then be above Bangladesh.
Pakistan placed third earlier this year, but have since lost two successive series against South Africa, going down 1-2 earlier this year and now again 0-1 at home.
All is not lost as Pakistan has yet another chance to improve their rankings when they tour India next month for a series that includes five ODIs and three Tests.

Inzi Hangs his Test Cap

Inzamam has finally decided to call it quits after playing this upcoming test match between Pakistan and South Africa at Lahore. He would have played 120 Test matches since his debut in 1992 scored over 8800 runs highest being the glorious 329 vs New Zealand in 2002.
“I spoke to the board and selectors and the first Test was originally offered to me but I wasn’t mentally ready to come back to Test cricket then. It was my idea to play in Lahore and then say ‘Thank you very much’. I am really grateful to the board for their gesture as nobody else has been able to leave the game like this. Not Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Saeed Anwar or Javed Miandad, it has not been the tradition. No previous board chairman has shown the kind of respect that Nasim Ashraf is showing to me by allowing me to leave the game in this way.” – BigStarCricket.com
